April is National Poetry Month. You knew that already, didn't you?
In the spirit of freeing poetry from the page (and the computer), anyone can celebrate national Poem In Your Pocket Day on Thursday, April 29, 2010 ...
The idea is simple: select a poem during National Poetry Month then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family, and friends on April 29, 2010.
Poems from pockets will be unfolded throughout the day with events in parks, libraries, schools, workplaces, and bookstores. Create your own Poem In Your Pocket Day event or share your plans, projects, and suggestions for "Poem In Your Pocket Day" by emailing npm@poets.org.
The day I could fly
Give me back
the day I could fly
let me look at a clock
without thinking "I'm late"
let me remember
the pictures the clouds made
and the days so long
I got bored
Let me have those back
and I'll give you a story that never ends
Now I know
how all stories end
even the books
that haven't been written yet
Now I know
that no one can really fly
It's not my youth I want returned
give me back
that surprise
when my feet left the ground
